Because not all the best looks are on the runway – our Catwalk Teams’ Anna Ross picks the top of the crop from SS18 Street Style NYFW so far. Well, excuse me while I break into a no doubt harmonious rendition of Bobby Vinton’s “Blue Velvet.” This look that NY stylist Rachael Wang is wearing ticks all the right boxes for me; Cobalt blue on point and that touching detail is to die for. Loved how she’s paired it with a sturdy cowboy boot. Courtesy of IMAXTREE When you and your bestie ace the autumnal tones. Bravo, ladies. Courtesy of IMAXTREE Ah, Linda Tol, she just gets it right every time; Tol ticks off three major trends in one-piece – Patent, Asymmetric, and Hardware. Well played Linda! Courtesy of IMAXTREE Now don’t say I didn’t tell you about cool Tamu McPherson is, because I did – here. We’re seeing a lot of brights jazz up the streets of NYC; note lilac, mint and tangy orange- you heard it here first. Courtesy of IMAXTREE I love this off-kilter mix of the volume boho dress (hello, sleeves!) with the super-polished purse and sporty sock boots. Very chic. Stay tuned as I’ll be feeding you more Insider street style tips throughout Fashion Week season! New York: Leave it up to Alexander Wang to create an all night event – well, almost. Models boarded the party bus and along with a convoy of Ram trucks made pit stop presentations through the streets of Manhattan. From Lafayette and Center streets to their final destination, Bushwick, Brooklyn, the ‘Wangfest’ party sashayed with abounding energy. But away from the street party, Wang’s collection was rife with some clear directional pieces for his loyal crowd. Known for his streetwise cool, Wang offered denim cutoffs layered over leather leggings, deconstructed jeans and off-shoulder shirts that will be an instant hit worn with a satin camisole or sports bra. Wang’s tailoring also came reinterpreted, in particular, a zip front jacket with coordinating trousers and, like many other pieces, artfully tied around the waist with sleeves. There were abbreviated slinky satin numbers that suited the mood of the evening, evoking a sexy unraveled appeal and of course, the headgear, with words such as ‘Party Animal’ and ‘Wangover’ shouted out his girls were definitely off to a party, and perfect social media fodder. –Lizzy Bowring Wangfest SS18- Alexander Wang at NYFW The post NYFW Alexander Wang S/S 18: A ‘Wangfest’ street party like no other appeared first on WGSN Insider. http://ift.tt/2xoGN4a

What comes after Millennial Pink is the question that our WGSN colour editors are asked the most? Will it be red, blue, yellow etc? Well, one look at the NYFW catwalk and our prediction for purple, as we stated here, is being proved right show after show. “For SS18, purple will be increasingly important and will come to override pink as a key colour,” our Global Colour SS18 report stated, but just how to wear this vibrant colour come spring/summer 2018? Well, whether you want to dabble with the colour, from the shoes at Tibi, or wear it head to toe, like at Victoria Beckham, the catwalk is here to help. Also, as we predicted purple this season comes in shades from a sweet magenta to ‘Electric Lilac’, so the options prove there’s a tone of purple to suit everyone. We’ve spoken a lot at WGSN about the importance of good packaging in order for your product to stand out from the crowd. Good product is great, good product in stunning packaging is better. And in the age of social media, the visuals, the aesthetics and how well your product looks on Instagram are important factors for brands, both new and traditional, to think about. Colour matters, so does good lighting, the right angle and of course a good flat lay. But how else can you stand out? What prints, patterns, ideas have not been done yet? Well, New York Fashion Week is here to help. No one knows better than NYFW designers about the importance of good packaging to make your show stand out from the competition. From the invitation to catwalk set, the entire look matters and this year the designers offered up some really cool, show-stopping packing ideas. Check them out below: Make a statement – like Tom Ford Tom Ford packing ideas- make a statement Tom Ford didn’t send a traditional invite to his show this season, instead he got his new perfume to do the talking for him. Each invitee got a bottle of Tom’s NSFW perfume, complete with the cheeky product name. Go Personal- like Tibi Tibi, the womenswear line, is celebrating 20 years this year. To mark the occasion, founder and creative director Amy Smilovic crafted this hand written note that sat on every seat at the show, complete with colouring pencils encouraging the audience to create on a blank canvas. Texture Matters- as seen as Area Otherwise known as a cooling pad/heating pad, the Area invite was definitely not the norm, but a brilliant talking point. Since editors spend most of NYFW stressed this invite was thoughtful and the perfect wellness #selfcare invite. Paper stands out in this digital age- as seen at Chromat Chromat zine spotted at NYFW No traditional show notes at Chromat, but a brilliant zine instead. The youth streetwear brand, not only excited showgoers with an inclusive collection, using models of all sizes, the brand also teamed up with Papyrus to print #SS18Serenity zines- available exclusively at the runway show.
