High-end designer Ashish will join River Island to create the fashion retailer’s latest Design Forum collaboration for autumn/winter 2017. Known for his quirky embellishment, Ashish Gupta becomes the Design Forum’s penultimate collaborator, following fellow designers Sibling, Eudon Choi and Zoe Jordan. However, River Island has said that Gupta brings a “fresh approach” to the initiative, becoming the first to promote a gender-neutral collection. Describing his collection as “something lazy and a bit dreamy,” Ashish said he wanted to inject a sense of humour yet deliver an easy-wear concept, adding “something relaxed enough to slouch around the house in, yet stylish enough to be taken out.” The 15-piece collection “embraces a fun and playful quirkiness across loungewear, outerwear and dresses,” said River Island. A preview of the Ashish X River Island collaboration Fridge-magnet alphabet sweats and embroidered pyjamas include tongue in cheek slogans including ‘sick of all this chic’ and ‘good in bed’, while dramatically over-sized sleeping bag puffa jackets and Ashish’s signature glamour in the form of sparkly slip dresses complete the “wonderfully unconventional range”. Ashish x River Island Design Forum collection will launch via a short film at London Fashion Week’s Fashion Film event, an initiative by The British Fashion Council and River Island, in September. The collection goes on sale exclusively online (riverisland.com) from September. Prices range £30-£180.
